How much does Odoo ERP cost in the UK? Licences, implementation and running costs

A realistic breakdown of Odoo pricing for UK businesses: per-user licences, implementation fees, hosting and what drives the total up or down.

"How much does Odoo cost?" is the question we are asked most, and the honest answer is that it depends on three separate things that people tend to lump together. Once you separate them, the numbers make sense and you can compare quotes properly.

The three cost layers

1. Licences. Odoo Enterprise is priced per user, per month, billed annually. At the time of writing the published UK prices are roughly £20 to £30 per user per month depending on the plan, with the higher plan adding Odoo Studio, multi-company and API access. Prices change, so check Odoo's own pricing page before you budget.

2. Implementation. This is the one-off cost of getting the system set up for your business: discovery, configuration, any custom development, data migration, testing and training. It is almost always the largest number in year one.

3. Running costs. Hosting (if you are not on Odoo's own cloud), support, updates and any further development after go-live.

What implementation actually costs

Published industry guides put Odoo implementation for UK businesses anywhere from around £4,000 for a simple setup to £80,000 or more for multi-entity deployments with heavy customisation. That range is so wide as to be nearly useless on its own, so here is how it breaks down in practice.

A simple setup for a small business, using standard apps with little customisation, light data migration and a couple of training sessions, sits at the lower end. Think a services company that wants CRM, quotes, invoicing and projects.

A typical small business project with three to five modules, stock, some custom fields and reports, migration of customers, products and open balances, and department-by-department training, sits in the middle. Most of the businesses we work with are here.

A complex project involving multiple companies or warehouses, manufacturing, integrations with other systems, custom modules and years of historical data sits at the top of the range.

The software is rarely the expensive part. Custom development, cleaning up data that has been in spreadsheets for a decade, and requirements that change halfway through are what push a project up the range.

What drives the cost up

  • Custom development. Every workflow that Odoo does not do out of the box needs to be built. Small tweaks are cheap; a bespoke module is not.
  • Data quality. Migrating clean data is quick. Migrating five versions of the same customer with different spellings is not. See our ERP data migration guide.
  • Integrations. Connecting Odoo to Shopify, a courier or a payment gateway adds scope. Sometimes it is the whole point of the project, but it should be costed separately.
  • Number of modules. Each module needs configuring and each department needs training.
  • Changing requirements. The cheapest change is one made during discovery. The most expensive is one made after go-live.

What keeps it down

  • A clear brief. Knowing what you want the system to do before you ask for a quote saves everyone time. Our guide on how to write a software brief applies to ERP too.
  • Using standard features where you can, even if it means changing a habit.
  • Starting with the modules that hurt most and adding the rest in a second phase.
  • Tidying your data before the project, not during it.

Hidden costs to ask about

When you compare quotes, ask what is included. Common gaps: hosting, training beyond a single session, hypercare support after go-live, and the cost of changes after the specification is signed. A quote that looks cheap often becomes expensive in the gaps. Our ERP implementation mistakes article covers the ones we see most.

Is it worth it?

The businesses that get the most from Odoo are the ones that measure what it replaced. Hours of retyping per week, stock write-offs, late invoices, missed reorders. Put a number on those before the project and the return is usually obvious within the first year.

Getting a real number for your business

Nobody can quote an ERP accurately from a web page, and we do not publish a price list for that reason. What we do is a free 30 minute discovery call, then a written quote with a fixed price for defined scope. Read about our ERP service or request a quote.

Key takeaways

  • Odoo has three cost layers: the licence, the implementation and the ongoing hosting and support.
  • Licences are per user per month. Implementation is the bigger number and depends on modules, data and customisation.
  • Industry guides put small business implementations in the low thousands of pounds and larger multi-company projects into tens of thousands.
  • The biggest cost drivers are custom development, dirty data and unclear requirements, not the software itself.

Frequently asked questions

There is a free open-source Community edition that you host yourself, and Odoo also offers one app free on its cloud. Most businesses that need accounting, stock and sales together use the paid Enterprise edition, which is priced per user per month. Our Community vs Enterprise guide explains the difference.
No. You pay for users who log in. A warehouse team of ten might share two or three logins on scanners, and staff who only need a payslip do not need a licence at all. Working out the real user count is one of the first things a good implementer does.
Small businesses with simple needs sometimes do, using Odoo's standard apps on its cloud. Once you need data migration, custom workflows, UK VAT setup or integrations with other systems, a partner usually saves money by avoiding mistakes that are expensive to undo later.
